Which graduate program is right for you?

Selecting the right graduate program can be a daunting task. The Newhouse School offers a wide variety of programs to suit the practical needs and professional goals of our students. Select below to learn more about what we offer.

  • Professional Degree Programs
  • Academic
    • Our academic master's degree in media studies is ideal for students with mass media experience who want to critically examine the mass communications process. It's also an excellent foundation for the doctoral degree

      The media studies program begins in fall and is typically two years long.

  • Online
    • Newhouse recently introduced Communications@Syracuse, an online Master of Science in Communications. With classes taught by Newhouse faculty, the master's in communications offers students around the world the opportunity to receive the highest-quality education without relocating.

  • Executive Education
    • Our current executive education program offers a communications management master's degree from our public relations department. With Newhouse's growing facilities and a centralized executive education administrative office, we plan on expanding to other departments in the near future.

      The communications management degree does require some on campus visits, but most of the work can be done via a distance-learning curriculum.

  • Doctoral Program
    • Our three-year mass communications Ph.D. program allows you to focus on excellence in  teaching while pursuing your unique research goals. You will be able to dig deeper into mass communications issues and produce work that will enrich your academic scholarship as well as your students' classroom experiences.

      You will also be active in Syracuse University's Future Professoriate Program, which offers many avenues of support for students planning on teaching, including: 

      • a series of Future Professoriate Program seminars 
      • the Certificate in University Teaching, awarded jointly by SU's Graduate School and participating academic departments to those students who document their readiness to hold faculty appointments
      • Independent mentored teaching experiences under the guidance of faculty teaching mentors
