From career skills seminars to in-person advising, the Career Development Center provides everything students need to prepare for their careers as communications professionals.

Advising Appointments: CDC counselors are available to meet with students one-on-one for career advising appointments. Our office also holds Quick Counsel appointments for students to drop-in to get answers to questions about resumes, cover letters, interviewing or anything career-related!

Internship Archive: The Newhouse School is a target school for employers. The Career Development Center has an archive of over 1500 internships that students can review.

Newhouse Network: It is true that Newhouse alumni bleed Orange. The Newhouse Network is a database of Newhouse alumni who have volunteered to serve as mentors and networking contacts. Students must complete the Job Hunt series or meet with a CDC Counselor before gaining access.

CareerShift: CareerShift is an online tool to help job and internship seekers find career opportunities, search for contacts, and conduct company research. CareerShift works by using an exclusively licensed, patent-pending set of integrated tools that allows the job seeker to organize a company of interest database, find networking connections and job openings. Current students are eligible for a free account due to the generous donations from alumni, parents and friends.

Handshake: Handshake is Syracuse University Career Service Management platform that is available to all SU students. The program allows students to apply to job/internships, connect with thousands of employers, register for campus events, and schedule appointments with the Career Center.

About Communications Internships

Internships are vital when it comes to finding a job at graduation. Internships help students gain valuable professional skills needed to be successful in the field, but helps them determine if the industry they chose is the right fit. Newhouse students graduate with an average of 3-4 internships. The Career Development Center provides the resources needed for students to find an internship, such as seminars and events and one-on-one career advising.

Newhouse in NYC: The Newhouse School operates a satellite campus program in New York City that allows students to pursue professional internships, specialized course work and regular interactions with industry leaders.

Newhouse LA: Syracuse University joins our West Coast “community of experts” with the Newhouse LA semester, offering students a once-in-lifetime opportunity to learn the entertainment business from the inside.

Newhouse DC: Newhouse DC is a one-semester professional development program that provides students with a unique opportunity to intern part-time for a prestigious media company while taking specialized coursework in Washington, D.C.
