Wasim Ahmad has worked at newspapers in Minnesota, Florida and upstate New York. He taught multimedia journalism for almost six years at Stony Brook University and worked in the photo industry as a technical specialist for Canon USA after that. He is also currently a staff writer for the photography industry website Fstoppers.com.
Ahmad graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Binghamton University and a Master of Science in photography at Syracuse University. He is currently pursuing is Ph.D. in Mass Communications at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and teaches in the Communications@Syracuse online master’s program.
Before coming to Newhouse, Ahmad was a video/photo journalist and web editor for newspapers, and he taught those skills to graduate and undergraduate students at Stony Brook. Ahmad created and oversaw the curriculum for the photography and web video classes there, and coordinated the websites for the school and related centers. He was also a coordinator for the school's Robert W. Greene Summer Institute for High School Journalists.
Ahmad’s work has been recognized by the Freedom Forum and the Center for Innovation in College Media, but by far the award he's most proud of is the 2013 "Seniors' Choice" award for best professor in the School of Journalism at Stony Brook University.
