Mitch Messinger ’92, G’93 is an experienced and dedicated publicity executive with a long proven and demonstrated history of creating and executing innovative campaigns via traditional and new media. For over two decades working in the entertainment industry, Messinger is a proven leader and strong professional skilled in domestic and international TV and film PR. His connections are far and wide as he has strong relationships with members of the press, producers, talent and their reps, studio and network executives and many others.
Currently, Messinger is an international publicity consultant for brand, series and corporate publicity with streamer Lionsgate+ as well as publicity consultant with Washington, D.C. based boutique PR agency MARC Global Communications where he oversees campaigns for Byron Allen’s TheGrio, John and Lillian Lewis Foundation, among others. He recently covered the red carpet and media rooms for events leading up to and including the 2022 Primetime Emmys on NBC and Peacock. He also ran the 1 millionth passenger celebration campaign for Avelo Airlines at their West coast hub at Burbank Hollywood Airport.
Previously, Messinger was a publicity consultant for FOX Entertainment where he designed and spearheaded publicity campaigns for primetime series “Alter Ego,” “Call Me Kat” and “Next Level Chef” with Gordon Ramsay, Nyesha Arrington and Richard Blais.
Prior to FOX, he was the show publicist for the 93rd Oscars in 2021 which was televised on ABC and in over 200+ countries worldwide.
Before that, he was publicity director for ABC Entertainment, part of Walt Disney Television, from October 2003 to February 2021. He oversaw a variety of national publicity campaigns for series and specials, most recently including “The Goldbergs,” “Dancing with the Stars,” ”The Hustler” and “The ESPYs” as well as past projects “Schooled,” ”United We Fall,” ”Marvel's Runaways,” ”Supermarket Sweep,” “Speechless,” “Roseanne” revival, “Alex, Inc.,” "Dancing with the Stars Juniors,” “The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette,” “Bachelor in Paradise,” “Imaginary Mary,” “Galavant,” “The Neighbors,” “Body of Proof,” “Secret Millionaire,” “Ball Boys” and “General Hospital” as well as SOAPnet cable series “General Hospital: Night Shift” and “Holidate.”
During his tenure, he won first place for the Faxies awards in the "Press Kit" category for his work on “The Goldbergs,” “Schooled” and “American Housewife.” In addition, he was a nominee for the Publicist Guild’s Maxwell L. Weinberg Showmanship Award for “Best Television Publicity Campaign” for “Speechless."
Prior to ABC, Messinger held publicity positions at PR agency Bragman Nyman Cafarelli, Walt Disney Television Animation, Columbia TriStar Television Distribution and Buena Vista (Disney) International Television while his first job was in the theatrical publicity department at MGM/UA.
Messinger received a B.A. in American studies from the College of Arts and Sciences in conjunction with the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University in May 1992. A year later, he received an M.S. in television, radio and film from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse. While a student, Messinger was actively involved on campus including the University 100 Ambassador program, Otto the Orange mascot, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Greek Council, Student Government Association and Academic Peer Advisor among other activities.
A long-running board member and a past president of the Syracuse University Alumni Club of Southern California, he also sat on the national board of the SU Alumni Association from 2004-2010. Messinger serves as an alumni representative for the undergraduate Admissions office where he attends college fairs and conducts off-campus interviews of prospective students. Only seven years out of school, he was the winner of the Syracuse University Outstanding Young Alumnus Award in 2000.
Born in New York City and raised in Manalapan, New Jersey, Messinger lives just outside of Los Angeles with his family and he is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Publicist Guild, IATSE Local 600.
