Kelly Lux serves as associate director of the Communications@Syracuse program at the Newhouse School. Lux teaches COM 627, Social Media for Communicators, in the Communications@Syracuse program. Prior to joining Newhouse, she worked and taught at Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies (iSchool) from 2010 to 2015 in her role as the online community and relationship manager and most recently as director of social media.
At the iSchool, Kelly provided guidance and assistance on how best to use online and social media strategies to further evolve relationships with employers, alumni, development prospects, and potential and current students. She served on the iSchool’s Communications/Reputation Management Team, which seeks to expand the public’s awareness of the school; creates and delivers content for a variety of print, electronic and online media; fosters communication among iSchool community members and its audiences; and tracks and reports the effectiveness of these efforts.
Kelly co-founded Community Manager Chat (#CMGRchat) on Twitter. Established in 2010, #CMGRchat is a weekly chat targeted towards those who manage online communities of all sizes, as well as those who aspire to be community managers. Kelly and co-founder, Jenn Pedde ’04, have used this platform to inform users, share resources and build a “community of community managers.” In addition, the pair has co-taught two courses at the iSchool: Social Media & Online Community Management and Web Content Strategy & Application.
First joining Syracuse University in 2007, she served as alumni programs coordinator at SU’s Career Services, as assistant to the AVP of Syracuse University Student Affairs and as community relations coordinator at Anheuser-Busch.
