Genaro Armas ’94, G’95 oversees communications for the Newhouse School, including publications, web, social media, recruitment marketing and special events publicity.

Before Newhouse, worked in marketing and communications at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and served as public relations manager before returning to his alma mater. At UWM, he collaborated with marketing and communications team members, as well as university leaders, staff and faculty on a variety of projects that supported enrollment marketing efforts, education initiatives and other institutional priorities. Armas was communications lead for educational initiatives at UWM promoting inclusivity, diversity, equity and accessibility, working in partnership with higher and secondary education institutions in the region. He led the team that launched the Curious Campus podcast at the university.

Before joining UWM, Armas spent more than two decades as a journalist with The Associated Press. He covered everything from political conventions to the Olympics, and he won awards for breaking news when he covered the Sandusky crisis at Penn State University. While at the AP, he worked in Albany, New York; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C.; State College, Pennsylvania; and Milwaukee.  

He earned a bachelor's degree in magazine, news and digital journalism from the Newhouse School and a master's degree in political science from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs
