Genaro Armas ’94, G’95 oversees communications for the Newhouse School at Syracuse University, including publications, web, social media, recruitment marketing and special events publicity.

Genaro has extensive higher education and journalism experience. Before Newhouse, he served as the public relations manager at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He collaborated with marketing and communications team members, as well as administrative leaders, staff and faculty on a variety of projects that supported enrollment marketing efforts, education initiatives and other institutional priorities. Genaro was communications lead for educational initiatives at UWM promoting inclusivity, diversity, equity and accessibility, working in partnership with higher and secondary education institutions in the region. He led the team that launched the Curious Campus podcast at the university.

Before joining UWM, Genaro spent more than two decades as a journalist with The Associated Press. He covered everything from political conventions to the Olympics, and he won awards for breaking news when he covered the Sandusky crisis at Penn State University. While at the AP, he worked in Albany, New York; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C.; State College, Pennsylvania; and Milwaukee.  

Genaro earned a bachelor's degree in magazine, news and digital journalism from the Newhouse School and a master's degree in political science from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs
