Donna Susan Edghill McLellan was born in a small village in Guyana, called Turkeyen. Her father was a carpenter, and her mother did trade between Brazil and Guyana. Before migrating to the United States with her family at the young age of eleven, Donna lived in Suriname and Brazil. Donna attended Syracuse City Schools and graduated from Corcoran High School with a few artistic honors. She received a Congressional Award from Congressman Walsh for Artistic Excellence, and her painting hung in his office for over a year. She also received a Peace Corps Award for Outstanding Artistic Contributions, and a Syracuse Stage Award for Outstanding Artistic Contribution for the play “Dragonwings.”
Donna attended Syracuse University as a part-time student, working full-time for parking and transit services at Syracuse University. After matriculation, in five short years, she received her bachelor’s degree in hospitality management from the Falk College, with the honor of cum laude. During her undergraduate studies, Donna received a Chancellor’s Citation from Chancellor Nancy Cantor for her service-learning project at the VA Medical Center. Her senior group also won 1st place in their Capstone Business Plan Competition, against 15 other groups, and she received a Certificate of Outstanding Accomplishment and Contribution as executive manager of her senior gala.
Throughout her 19+ years at Syracuse University, Donna has worked in the offices of parking and transit services, undergraduate admissions, and first-year and transfer programs. Donna is currently working on her master’s degree in post-secondary higher education and aspires to obtain an MBA in her educational journey. Donna believes she’s a life-long learner and she will never stop learning or wanting to grow academically or professionally.
In her spare time, Donna enjoys reading, dancing, designing her dream house, binge watching Netflix, spending time with her family and cooking for her friends and family (especially during the holidays). She also enjoys attending church regularly and serving her community.
Donna is excited to join the Newhouse team and cannot wait to see what is in store on her new adventure.
