Newhouse junior Gabe Stern placed in the prestigious Hearst awards for the Breaking News Competition.
Stern, a newspaper and online journalism major, received the prize for his story, “Students pressure administrators at Barnes Center sit-in,” published last fall by The Daily Orange. Stern receives a $1,000 scholarship for his fourth-place win.
The Hearst Journalism Awards program hosts 14 monthly competitions in various areas of journalism, and awards up to $700,000 in scholarships and grants annually.
