Society for News Design international print competition judging to be held at Drumlins Feb. 8 and 9

January 31, 2014

The event, open to the public, is hosted by the Newhouse School

Some 25 judges from around the world will pore over thousands of international entries to select the best work produced by news publications over the past year at the annual Society for News Design international print competition judging, to be held Saturday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 9, at Drumlins Country Club ballroom. The Newhouse School has hosted the event for nearly two decades.

Judges review newspapers and magazines of various circulation sizes in categories such as breaking news, features, photography, redesign, illustrations, long form and world’s best, among others. “It’s quite an impressive collection of journalism and design,” says Claudia Strong, an adjunct in Newhouse’s multimedia photography and design department one of the coordinators of the event.

The public is invited to view the process at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Short tours will be offered at the beginning of each hour, after which guests will be able to browse the publications on their own.
