Newhouse welcomes class of 2023

The Newhouse School at Syracuse University welcomes the Class of 2023!

Here are some facts about this year’s incoming Newhouse class:
  • Newhouse welcomed a record-breaking class with 462 first-year students and 11 transfer students for a total of 473.
  • Newhouse had more than 4,100 first-year applicants and 154 transfer applicants vying for those seats.
  • The incoming class had a combined high school GPA of 3.8, with a transfer class average GPA of 3.67.
  • SAT math averages for the incoming class is 688; verbal, 669; with an ACT average of 30.
  • Students represent 33 states including Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylavania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin, with students also coming in from the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands
  • Newhouse welcomes international students from China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Kuwait, Russia, United Kingdom and Vietnam.
  • The class is 59 percent female and 41 percent male.
  • About 25 percent of the incoming SU students identify as members of an ethnic minority.
  • Newhouse also welcomes 388 new graduate students: 197 professional residential students; six media studies students; six doctoral students; and 179 online students.
  • 1007 applicants competed for the available spots.
  • Accepted graduate students had a college GPA average of 3.4.
