Newhouse graduate students visit New York City for benchmark trip

February 2, 2018

Eleven graduate students from the television, radio and film, audio arts and media and education programs traveled to New York City in January for a five-day benchmark trip, which gave them the opportunity to meet and network with professionals from the television and film industries, all while getting a feel for one of the hotspots of modern media production.

Starting each day at the Fisher Center, Syracuse University’s New York City headquarters and home to the Newhouse in New York City program, the group spent the week meeting with 15 Newhouse industry professionals and visiting alumni at MLB Network, Vice Media, Rockefeller Center, ESPN and Thrillist.

The group also took in a taping of the Comedy Central show, “The Opposition with Jordan Klepper,” and spent an evening at Lubin House meeting with local alumni.

Also on the itinerary was a lunch with Edward Bleier ‘51, a former president with Warner Bros., who underwrote the trip.

Students who went on the trip were: Emily Campbell, Melissa Cotto-Castro, Erin Fish, Cara Fusillo, Monica Gonzalez, Cameron Hill, Jessica Mintz, Kent Paisley, Liza Lucas Pemstein, Hollie Perry and Brian Yao. Andy Robinson, adjunct professor and general manager of the Orange Television Network, led the excursion.
