The Newhouse School at Syracuse University recently inaugurated the new Craig and Ranée Weinstein Sports Media Gallery on the second floor of Newhouse 2, which underwent an $18 million renovation in 2014.

Newhouse Dean Lorraine Branham says the gallery is a working space for students, faculty and visitors to see Newhouse’s involvement and influence in the world of sports media.

The new gallery features an interactive screen, an alumni photo and quote display area as well as an honor roll, listing the names of 380 Newhouse alumni.

“We are about making sure that the tradition of sports and sports media at Newhouse continues, and our reputation in this area continues to exist across the country,” Branham says.

The Craig and Ranée Weinstein Sports Media Gallery was created to honor all the SU and Newhouse alumni working in sports media, Branham says. The gallery will work in conjunction with the Newhouse Sports Media Center, which is directed by professor of practice John Nicholson ’68 and began two years ago for the Sports Communications Emphasis, a specialized track for graduate students.

Craig and Ranée Weinstein were present at the inauguration and ribbon cutting to thank those who had been part of the project.

“I didn’t become a sports writer, but sports was such a big part of my life and Newhouse has done so much for me,” says Craig Weinstein, a 1980 Newhouse graduate who works as an attorney in New York City.
