Michael Meath, outgoing interim chair and professor of public relations at the Newhouse School, was elected Teacher of the Year by the Newhouse Class of 2020.

All graduating students vote on the Teacher of the Year honor, which is usually bestowed at the Newhouse Convocation Ceremony. This year, Meath was recognized during the public relations department’s Zoom celebration, held May 8.

Meath served as an adjunct in the public relations department from 2006 to 2016, when he was named assistant teaching professor. He has taught courses in ethics, public relations management, crisis communications and communications law.

Meath, who has served as interim chair for the past two years, retires from Newhouse with the close of the spring semester. His students and former students, colleagues, family and friends celebrated his career with a surprise ceremony, held via Zoom, on April 30.
