Grygiel research motivates reform to federal social media policy

A recently-released report by Chairman Ed Royce of the House Foreign Affairs Committee points to research done by Jennifer Grygiel, assistant professor of communications, as a motivator for reforming the social media practices of the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM). Grygiel's research uncovered advertising from Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in violation of 1948's Smith-Mundt Act which prohibits propaganda from being disseminated to American citizens.
