February 20, 2018

The alumni event will be held March 15 in San Francisco

As we scroll through Facebook and swipe past tweets, how can we tell what’s true? Join Syracuse University alumni and other guests March 15 in San Francisco to explore how social media contributes to the spread of fake news—and how best to separate fact from fiction.

Newhouse assistant professor Jennifer Grygiel, an expert in social media, and School of Information Studies assistant professor Jeff Hemsley will examine how social media affects the way we consume news. Ellie Thiele '12, who works as a user experience researcher with Airbnb, will serve as the evening's moderator.

The event will take be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the SPUR Urban Center, 2nd Floor, 654 Mission Street, San Francisco. Registration is required:
