Financial advisor Neil Canell joins Newhouse Advisory Board

Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications has announced the appointment of Neil Canell to the Newhouse Advisory Board.

Canell is a managing director and financial advisor at J.P. Morgan Securities, a wealth management division of J.P. Morgan. He joined the firm in 2017 to offer his clients the boutique advisory environment and distinctive services available at the firm. His primary focus is on the fixed income marketplace, specifically municipal and corporate bonds, taxable and tax-free bond funds, preferred stock and structured products. In conjunction with a mortgage advisor, he also coordinates client mortgages, debt refinancing, home equity lines of credit and credit line strategies. In addition, he is the Canell Group’s primary contact for professional athletic and entertainment clientele.

Prior to joining the firm, he was a managing director and Chairman’s Council member at Morgan Stanley.

He is a founding board member of Summer Camp Opportunities to Promote Education (SCOPE), a nonprofit organization that provides children from underserved communities with the opportunity to attend summer camp. He is a board member of Riley’s Way Foundation, the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and Athletes vs. Crohn’s & Colitis. He also serves on the board of Harrison Varsity Lacrosse in Harrison, New York.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University in 1989 and is Series 7, 31 and 63 registered.
