"CBS Evening News" anchor Jeff Glor '97 delivers Newhouse Convocation Ceremony keynote

Newhouse alumnus Jeff Glor '97, anchor of "CBS Evening News," delivered the keynote address at the 2018 Newhouse Convocotion Ceremony May 12 at the Carrier Dome. Celebrating the completion of their Newhouse studies were some 550 undergraduate, 275 master's and two doctoral students. 

Newhouse dean Lorraine Branham opened the ceremony with words of welcome for the students and their families before introducing Glor. Ronald Saldarini and Kelly Moran were Class Marshals, and spoke on behalf of the undergraduate students. Kate Farrish, graduating from the Communications@Syracuse program, spoke on behalf of the graduate students. Assistant professor Nina Brown was chosen by the students as Faculty Member of the Year.

Newhouse alumna Kathrine Switzer '68, G'72, the first woman to run in the Boston Marathon, delivered the keynote address at the Syracuse University Commencement Ceremony May 13.

Glor started his career in broadcast journalism as co-anchor of WSTM-TV Syracuse's evening newscast, and was named "Best Male News Anchor" by the Syracuse New Times. He joined CBS News in 2007, and started as the anchor of "CBS Evening News" in December of 2017. He graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University with dual degrees in broadcast and digital journalism from the Newhouse School and economics from the College of Arts and Sciences.
