Righting Social Injustice: A Conversation with Journalist Martha Mendoza

Martha Mendoza is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner. In 2000 she earned this recognition for exposing the No Gun Ri massacre, in which the American military killed civilians fleeing what became North Korea. For 50 years, the U.S. military denied the incident, but her team uncovered damning documents at the U.S. Archives.

In 2016, she was part of the team that set free more than 2,000 enslaved men, who were forced to work in the fishing industry on a remote Thai island. The AP team found the island, including some men – some living in cages – and followed ships and manifests to show much of the men’s labor ended up on U.S. supermarket shelves.
