Fact vs. Fiction: Real headlines behind the opioid crisis

Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, 2 p.m. Soule Library

Cheryl Reed, assistant professor of magazine, news and digital journalism at the Newhouse School, will be joined by former heroin addict Jordan Eubanks, now a lead peer at Helio Health, for a frank discussion about the real stories behind the headlines of the opioid crisis. Reed will read portions of her novel, “Poison Girls,” about girls secretly using opioids. Eubanks will talk about his experience as a former addict now working to help others who are addicted to opioids. Eubanks will also give a short lesson on Narcan following the program.

The event will be held Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Soule Library, 101 Springfield Road, Syracuse.

The event is sponsored by the Central New York Fulbright Association. Several Fulbright students and former Fulbright Scholars will be present to answer questions about the program.
