Forever Orange: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

At the Newhouse School, we are dedicated to a culture grounded in inclusion and respect that prepares students to lead our industries in an increasingly diverse nation and world.

Activities that support diversity, equity and inclusion are prominent at the Newhouse School. Support can be found in the curriculum, procedures for hiring and recruitment, co-curricular and extracurricular activities and many more events in the life of the school.

As part of the Syracuse University Forever Orange Campaign, we have established gift opportunities in support of our DEI initiatives. We hope you will consider giving to one or more of these efforts.

Newhouse DEI Student Internship Fund

Professional communications industry internships are an integral part of the Newhouse student experience, yet some students are unable to pay for living costs related to off-campus internship experiences. This fund will assist students from underrepresented populations to make it possible for them to take full advantage of internship experiences that provide important networking opportunities and have a greater impact on their post-graduation career.

The Lorraine E. Branham Endowed Scholarship Fund

The gift of scholarship support for students from underrepresented populations will make it possible for deserving students to have access to a Newhouse education and experience. The Branham Scholarship program, established in memory and honor of the late Dean Lorraine Branham, will impact students for generations to come.

Newhouse DEI Student Travel Fund

We strive to provide our students with an expanded worldview and the cultural competency to be successful in global organizations. We will seek partnerships with schools in other countries and create student, teaching and research exchanges. We will also leverage the Newhouse Center for Global Engagement and identify global partners for international internship and travel opportunities.

We will continue to expand our satellite campus programs in Los Angeles and New York City, allowing students to live and learn in the media and entertainment capitals of the world, and have access to successful alumni in those industries. Donor support will enable students to participate in these cultural experiences by providing financial assistance to those unable to incur related travel costs.

Faculty Diversity

A gift to the Newhouse Dean’s Fund in support of recruiting and retaining world-class faculty, and increased faculty diversity, will help ensure that Newhouse students are receiving an education delivered by a diverse group of scholars and practitioners. As the Newhouse School is poised to hire a dozen new faculty members within the next two years, donor support for this initiative will have immediate impact.
