Larry Mason teaches graduate and undergraduate students of various disciplines courses in visual communication theory, beauty and diversity in fashion media, fashion and portrait photography, visual critical issues, multimedia storytelling and mass media and society.

Bio

Lawrence Mason Jr. has a professional background in communications photography, television, newspaper, magazine, radio and molecular genetics, in which he holds a Ph.D. Mason is the co-author and chief photographer of “Looking For Lockerbie” (Syracuse University Press, 2008). The book chronicles the broad history and present of the small Scottish market town that survived the terrorist bombing of Pan Am flight 103, which took the lives of 35 SU students. Mason also serves as the university’s Remembrance and Lockerbie Ambassador, coordinating all its memorial activities and its close relationship with Lockerbie. He has received several major teaching awards, including the Syracuse University Scholar/Teacher of the Year (2014-15), the Student Government Association Teacher of the Year and the Syracuse University Gateway Fellowship. Mason is a former picture editor and staff photographer for the Syracuse Herald-Journal and Herald-American and served as the Central New York picture coordinator for United Press International. He produced extensive freelance photography for The New York Times and US News and World Report and was a contract photographer for the Jamaica Tourist Board. Mason also served for five seasons as the host and writer of the Telly Award-winning program "Winter Gardening" on the Home and Garden Television Network (HGTV).
