The Newhouse Center for Global Engagement has secured communication-specific internship opportunities in Cape Town, South Africa with long-time Syracuse University partner, iKapa Impact.
iKapa Impact is a social services company based in Cape Town, South Africa that offers unique internships through a study abroad format in truth-based storytelling and assisting nonprofits with their public profiling. The company is committed to ethical engagements with local communities and matches internship opportunities to where skill meets need. The company offers structured, meaningful placements where interns see the importance of their contribution towards responsible projects happening in local South African communities. The company focuses on organizations and companies that are serious about changing the narrative of inequities in South Africa and ensures that the real needs of the local communities are met. The company’s aim is not to create a cycle of dependency on aid or volunteers, but to have systems that are mutually beneficial to the interns and locals.

Need: Assistance with starting a local community radio station. Kayamandi community has access to necessary/meaningful/relevant/authentic information.
What: Digital transformation for non-profits in South Africa.
Opportunity: Research/data driven journalism articles /storytelling journalism/harvest of change /data wrapping /chatbots. Summer and winter on site /off site/blended internships.
Newhouse Advertising Internships
Newhouse advertising seniors, juniors and advertising grad students are invited to apply for a summer internship with TBWA/RAAD-Dubai, the Middle Eastern hub of one of the world’s leading agency networks. Clients include Adidas, Nissan, Apple, McDonalds, Airbnb and Singapore Airlines.
Spend six weeks during the summer of 2023 deepening your understanding of advertising practices in this dynamic, global city. Room and a food allowance are provided, travel expenses are the intern’s responsibility. These internships may be pursued for credit or not, at your discretion.
