Remote Career Advising

The Newhouse Career Development Center will remain open and available to students virtually during the non-residential instruction period occurring after spring break. Though in-person services will temporarily be suspended, the CDC is prepared to continue assisting you online and over the phone. Please read on for information on how our services and resources will be available during this period and follow the CDC on Instagram and Facebook for updates.

Quick questions: Students who have quick questions should email nhcdc@syr.edu. You will receive a response as quickly as possible, likely the same day. Students with longer questions or who want to discuss an issue in depth should schedule an appointment (more on that below).

Résumé/cover letter dropbox: Instead of dropping off a printed copy at the CDC, students may email a copy to nhcdc@syr.edu. Review times will depend on demand, but we expect the turnaround to be about two to three business days.

Quick Counsel: Students with quick questions can attend drop-in sessions over the summer, which will be held each Wednesday from 12-1 p.m. EDT online.

Drop-in session Zoom link; available Wednesdays from 12-1 p.m. EDT>>

Please note: students who would like feedback on application materials such as résumés or cover letters should email nhcdc@syr.edu instead (see dropbox instructions above).

Appointments: Students may schedule a career advising appointment during the summer months by emailing nhcdc@syr.edu. In the email, students should provide their availability for the next five business days and, if meeting to discuss a résumé or cover letter, attach a copy of the materials. All appointments will be conducted online (or by phone if the student does not have internet access) and students will receive connection instructions once the appointment details are finalized.

Handouts and career prep resources: Students may access many of the CDC’s skills handouts through its website. For quick reference:
