In our magazine program, you learn the editorial and digital skills you need to succeed in the competitive magazine industry. Early in the program, you’ll learn multimedia, video and design skills alongside the basics of newsgathering, reporting and cross-platform writing. Later courses develop your skills as a narrative storyteller with an emphasis on the hallmarks of literary nonfiction—scenes, descriptions, anecdotes, dialog and point of view. You interact with faculty who continue to work in the field as you gain familiarity with a wide range of publications and their specific audiences, voices and personalities. As a senior, you’ll work on a group capstone project or develop your own writing portfolio.
