Technology Requirements

To ensure your ability to actively engage in your Newhouse coursework, you must have access to:

• A computer no older than four years old with at least 16GB of RAM and 128GB of free drive space
• Minimum operating system requirements: MacOS Big Sur (11.x) or Windows 10 (v.1909)
• A portable hard drive, 1TB or larger, with USB3 and or USB-C connection. Solid state drives (SSD) are encouraged
• A smart phone no older than four years old with a working camera and microphone

Note: Students who enroll in production-level courses (augmented/virtual reality, photography, design, video editing, visual effects, animation, cinematography) tend to have portable computers with screens no smaller than 15 inches, equipped with 32GB of RAM, a 512GB solid state drive and a dedicated GPU.

If you are purchasing a new computer, we encourage you to go through a manufacturer (Apple, Dell, HP, etc.) or the Syracuse University Bookstore.  We recommend investing in the manufacturer’s extended warranty coverage to ensure phone support and repair service options.
