PLAN NOW FOR THE 27th EDITION COMPETITION

It's not too soon to be planning for the 27th Edition competition that will take place on the Syracuse University campus Feb. 10 through Feb. 20, 2006.

U.S. entries are due in Syracuse no later than Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006.

Non-U.S. entries are due in Syracuse no later than Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006.

Publications continue to have an extra two weeks to prepare entries, Competition Director Marshall Matlock says. "It's going to be close for us to get the entries audited in the time allowed but I'm sure we can get the job done," he told the SND board in his report announcing the change. "We want to help publications as much as possible so we'll see how this works out in a one-year test. If it works well we plan to continue the practice."

Categories are expected to remain the same with minor changes and can be found in the 27th Edition Call for Entires which will be available for downloading from http://www.snd.org by Dec. 1.

The Call for Entries will be mailed in November to SND members and others, according to Matlock, SND's Competition Committee director and SU's judging director.

"Those who have been entering the competition for years know how important it is to keep pages in a safe place as they are produced each week," Matlock says. He suggests keeping them in a light-tight box laying them flat for storage. "The more pages the better," he says, "since it's easier to edit out pages that will not be entered than to try to find that 'special page' when you want to enter it."

BLUE, RED, YELLOW: Those are the colors of the cups used
during the competition to allow judges to vote without everyone
knowing the vote until it is announced. Blue means "yes," red
means "no" and yellow means there is a conflict in which case
another judge is asked to vote on the entry.
