Newhouse School of Communications

Television, Radio, and Film:

The Newhouse television, radio, and film master's program prepares students for work in a vast field of niche media industries. Their courses prepare them for careers as writers, directors, editors, producers, media executives, multimedia designers, managers, and agents. Past graduates of the program have gone on to work at MTV, Time-Warner, William Morris, Paramount Pictures, the big four networks, CNN, and independent production companies.

The heart of a TRF master's experience is a sequence of eight elective courses from a broad range of topics. Newhouse’s veteran TRF faculty help students navigate the expansive professional coursework to best meet their individual career needs. Faculty advisors also help students decide whether to specialize or diversify their coursework.

At the midpoint of their studies, students travel straight to the heart of the Television-Radio-Film, participating in week-long industry seminars in NewYork and Los Angeles.

Areas of study include sound, music, and radio production, screenwriting, filmmaking (features and documentary), television production (short form and long form), management, television and cinema studies, international perspectives, and interactive media. Students must take 36 credits and pass a comprehensive examination to complete the master's degree.

Students begin the program in early July. Most finish the program by completing an internship the following summer.
