Public Relations:
Public relations is a distinct management function that recognizes the importance of building and maintaining critical relationships between an organization and its publics. The 36-credit graduate program at Newhouse gives students a comprehensive knowledge of the theory, concepts, processes, and practices of public relations. Upon graduating from this professional studies program, students are prepared for careers in public affairs, marketing communications, corporate communications, community relations, fund-raising, association and not-for-profit organizational communications, and government information services.
Students may choose between two tracks: one that prepares graduates to enter the practice of public relations and a second (thesis track) that leads to doctoral study in preparation for a career in teaching or research. Students in the professional track conclude their studies with a cumulative exam and a public relations internship in a setting of their choice. Those in the second track must write a thesis as part of their culminating experience.
Students begin their studies in early July, and most finish the program 13 months later.
