Newhouse School of Communications

Broadcast Journalism:

Newhouse has a strong tradition and a strong curriculum that produces news "talent," as they are called in the business. Talent also includes sportscasters, weathercasters and other journalists who do on-air work. Our curriculum is equally geared toward training journalists who work off camera. Most of these journalists fall into a broad category called producers. It's the news producers who regularly decide which stories ultimately make a newscast and which ones do not. Other producers research stories and coach reporters at the scene where the stories are happening. Additionally, the Internet has provided a career path for some Broadcast Journalism graduate students. Recent graduates have taken such positions as:

  • Weekend Sports Anchor at WATM ABC 23, Johnstown, Pa.
  • Reporter/Weekend Anchor at WLFI-TV, West Lafayette, Ind.
