Newhouse School of Communications

Advertising:

This one-year, management-focused graduate program provides students with a comprehensive look at the advertising industry. While studying the art of persuasive communication, students examine advertising theory and techniques in the classroom and with real-world clients.

Students take courses in advertising practice and management, marketing, communications law, communications theory or research, and writing and visual communications. The program culminates in a capstone course in which students develop an integrated marketing communications campaign for a real-world client. The program begins in early July, and most students finish during June of the following summer.

Current faculty members have worked in the field, on the client side, with the media, and in advertising agencies. They remain involved with the industry through consulting, research projects, and industry competitions.

While at Newhouse, many students pursue internships with Syracuse-area advertising agencies and media companies. Most students begin searching for jobs in major metropolitan areas, often networking with Newhouse alumni.

The Newhouse graduate advertising program prepares its students for positions with advertising agencies, corporate advertising departments, and media companies.
