South by Southwest Accelerator and Student Startup Madness seek interns

September 4, 2014

Interns who stay with the September to March program earn a travel stipend and badge to SXSW

Gain Experience AND Go to SXSW Interactive

For the fifth year in a row, students from the Newhouse School will be going to the South By Southwest (SXSW) Interactive festival March 13-17, 2015 in Austin, Texas. Note: The application process to participate is changing this year and is happening much earlier.

Through a relationship with the SXSW event producer, Adeo Interactive, and coordinated by Newhouse’s Center for Digital Media Entrepreneurship, students will work as interns doing research, information gathering and social media for SXSW Accelerator and Student Startup Madness. (See below for details.) All internship work will be done virtually from Syracuse, from September through March, and all interns who are accepted and stay with the program will receive a travel allowance, accommodations and a badge for SXSW Interactive (a $2,500 value, with most funding provided by Dean Lorraine Branham’s office).

Through this new program, Newhouse students can gain valuable experience and knowledge in digital technologies, entrepreneurship and startup culture, while earning their way to SXSW Interactive, considered by some to be “the epicenter of digital media.”

Officially, all these internships are unpaid. And, students who have gone to SXSW as an official part of the Newhouse contingent (financially supported) in past years are not eligible.
