Newhouse site keeps campus in the know

As students arrive on campus this fall, they will have a new source for their fix of Syracuse news, sports and entertainment.
 
Collaborative Media Room general manager Jon Glass explains that The NewsHouse—http://www.TheNewsHouse.com—will be an innovative online product that covers, engages and interacts with the SU community.
 
Student journalists will use video, blogs, databases, audio, text, photos and more to tell their stories. The NewsHouse wants to deliver what students, faculty and SU enthusiasts need to know and talk about.
 
The core team behind NewsHouse will be eight Newhouse student editors who will manage the site and 20 reporting students in the Web Journalism and Innovation class who will be producing multimedia packages. But any SU student, undergrad or grad, is invited to contribute.
 
Newhouse professors will encourage their students to work on The NewsHouse, according to Glass. Journalism majors may provide news updates, blog posts, or multimedia projects. Down the road, Glass says, public relations and advertising students may get involved in marketing the site.
 
"The site is aimed at an SU audience," says Glass, adding that there are plans for the site to eventually grow beyond The Hill.
 
"We do want NewsHouse to branch out to the local community and people who care about SU.”
