Media effectiveness is determined in any number of imprecise or ambiguous ways, including brand awareness or audience engagement. Cognitive media measurement utilizes technologies first developed for medicine and security to offer an objective reading of effectiveness and interest.

Physiological responses such as heart rate or body temperature can tell researchers about emotional reactions to media. Eye tracking, skin conductivity and brain-wave measurements are all ways to measure biofeedback, and wearable technology is the most common way to collect this data…
