Hub Brown, associate dean and associate professor of broadcast and digital journalism (BDJ)  at the Newhouse School at Syracuse University, has been named one of the nation’s Noteworthy Journalism Educators by NewsPro magazine. The honor was announced in NewsPro’s January 2018 issue.

Brown, who serves as Newhouse’s associate dean for research, creativity, international initiatives and diversity, is a former reporter, anchor and producer in local commercial and public television. He teaches courses ranging from reporting for radio and television to on-air performance and newscast production.

His interest in diversity issues in media, ethical challenges and the impact of new media across journalism disciplines garnered him the 2016 Larry Burkum Service Award from the Electronic News Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).

“Hub epitomizes what all the faculty in BDJ try to do: Simultaneously teach the basic skills needed to be a journalist while also making sure students know that journalism doesn’t happen in a vacuum,” says Christopher Tuohey, department chair. “Hub is very careful to make sure students understand how their work fits in a world of diversity and ethical challenges. We’re very proud to have him on our team and I know the students feel the same way.”
