Recognized as an innovative educator, distinguished scholar and experienced academic leader with a history of championing research, Regina Luttrell was named senior associate dean of the Newhouse School in August 2023. She works with the Newhouse community on a variety of schoolwide initiatives, serves as deputy to Dean Mark J. Lodato and represents the school externally in the dean’s absence. 

Luttrell moved up to the No. 2 leadership position at Newhouse following more than 2 1/2 years as the associate dean for research and creative activity. She continues to lead efforts to promote research and creative activity as part of her portfolio, which now includes oversight of the Newhouse School’s centers and institutes. Luttrell also coordinates Newhouse initiatives to study the impact and responsible use of artificial intelligence, along with other emerging technologies that have proliferated the media industry and daily life.  

An experienced leader of complex research projects, Luttrell has a track record of supporting cross-departmental and interdisciplinary collaboration, and advocating for faculty in multiple capacities. In addition to her successes in securing external funding for research initiatives, Luttrell has also contributed broadly within her area of scholarship, authoring more than a dozen books, publishing in academic and professional journals, and presenting at domestic and international conferences.

Her research interests focus on public relations, artificial intelligence, data analytics, a multi-generational workforce, and the intersection of social media with society. Prior to entering the educational field, she spent the first portion of her career in corporate public relations and marketing. Her extensive background includes strategic development and implementation of public relations and social media, advertising, marketing, and corporate communications.
