Emilie Davis

Adjunct Faculty Newspaper & Online Journalism

Emilie Davis teaches introductory and advanced editing courses to undergraduate and graduate students. She also facilitates a newspaper and magazine practicum course in which undergrads and graduate students spend a semester working at an internship. 

Davis is the former copy desk chief of Gannett News Service, the national news wire that serves Gannett Co., Inc.'s newspapers. She led the desk that edited daily stories written by congressional and White House correspondents, as well as national, business and general assignment reporters. Previously, Davis was the managing editor of Gannett New Media in Arlington, Virginia, a research and development unit that created and produced the company's first online news products.

She began her career as a copy editor on the national desk of the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, N.Y. Later, she was named wire editor and an assistant metro editor.

Davis is a 1979 graduate of St. Bonaventure University, where she received a B.A. in mass communication. She was awarded a Dow Jones Newspaper Fund editing internship during her junior year and was assigned as a copy editor on the general desk of The Associated Press in New York City.

Davis is the former president of the Washington, D.C. chapter of Women in Communications.
