Dona Hayes has been at Newhouse since 1985 and has taught all undergraduate and graduate television journalism courses offered by the school. She has a keen interest in how local news is reported.
She was previously a reporter and anchor at WIXT-TV (now WSYR-TV), the ABC affiliate in Syracuse. She also worked in public television as a producer of long-format public affairs programs and documentaries.
She is the recipient of national, state and local awards for her reporting, including a five-part series on children with Down syndrome and a series of reports about battered women.
Hayes is co-author of "The Media and Disasters: Pan Am 103" and "Journalism and the Aging Population: Covering the Story."
She has been published in American Behavioral Scientist and Journalism Educator.
