Claudia StrongAdjunct Faculty Multimedia Photography & Design Also teaches in: Graphic Design
Claudia Strong teaches a variety of introductory and specialized graphic design courses to undergraduate and graduate students, including typography, publication design and introduction to graphic design. She especially delights in training and nurturing the next generation of visual storytellers and introducing students from other communications disciplines to the power of design and its essential role in their chosen industry.
Outside of class, Strong makes the most of her visual and writing skills to tackle all sorts of projects, but she especially loves working with interesting and talented people committed to making a difference by telling stories that matter.
Originally from Chile and fluent in Spanish, she fell in love with design after graduating from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. Determined to add to her writing and editing skills by exploring the world of visual communication, she began her foray into information design at The Orange County (California) Register, where she designed for all the paper’s news and features sections. Eventually, she chose to leave the newsroom to pursue a wider-ranging set of opportunities, which included commercial work, book design, Web design, book editing, picture editing and, now, teaching.
