Because every organization needs to create and maintain good will and mutual understanding, public relations practitioners work in corporations; local, state and federal government; health care institutions; schools; travel and leisure enterprises; social service agencies; sports organizations; trade and professional associations; the entertainment industry; utilities; high tech businesses; and financial institutions.
Although the field is still a relatively young one, studies show that the number of jobs in public relations is increasing annually. Many of the jobs are in government public affairs offices. About half of the jobs are in corporations and about one-fifth are in public relations agencies that represent multiple clients.
