Maureen Cavanagh '93

Maureen Cavanagh '93 is Deputy Picture Editor for Sports Illustrated.

She fell in love with sports photography while shooting Syracuse basketball games for the Daily Orange. Cavanagh went on to become the Deputy Picture Editor of Sports Illustrated magazine where she is in charge of feature photography, handling large stories and cover shoots with athletes such as Lance Armstrong, Serena Williams and Derek Jeter. She is also one of the founding editors of Sports Illustrated On Campus magazine, where she has been the Director of Photography for the past two years.

Her work as a photographer has been published in several books, including The Same River Twice: A Season with the UCONN Women's Basketball Team (2001). She has also written articles on photography for many publications, among them: Photo District News magazine. She received a POY Award of Excellence in the Magazine Editing Division in 1998 for her editorial coverage of Mark McGwire's homerun record season.
