Student Organizations:
Media professionals keep up with developments in their field through professional associations. Journalists, for example, have the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), which focuses on ethical, legal, and coverage issues. Public relations practitioners have the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), which links them to current issues in the field as well as to other professionals.
The Newhouse School sponsors student chapters of these organizations that are open to all. They meet monthly and offer guest speakers, panel discussions, and sessions on job hunting.
The School also organizes the Student Representative Committee each Fall. This Committee consists of the heads of the various student organizations plus elected representatives. It advises the Dean on School-wide issues, and its members serve with the faculty on such important School-wide committees as Tenure, Promotion, Rules, Awards, and Teaching Standards. All Newhouse students, including freshmen, are welcome to run for membership on this committee.

Campus Media
Syracuse University offers a wide array of campus media activities, almost all of them under the total editorial control of students. These activities are an essential part of a well-rounded communications education, and Newhouse students participate in great numbers.
The Daily Orange is a five-times-a-week newspaper that reports on student government, cultural activities, intercollegiate sports, and more.
Three radio stations operate on campus. They include WAER, WERW and WJPZ. WAER is a National Public Radio station with a jazz format; it also offers considerable news and sports programming, and it has been the cradle of such sports broadcasters as Bob Costas, Dick Stockton, Mike Tirico, Len Berman, Marv Albert, Ian Eagle, Sean McDonough, and many more. WJPZ has a music format that appeals to a college audience, and it also offers news and sports programming. WERW is Syracuse University's only free-format college radio station. This means that the DJs play the music they want, a dying art in the world of radio. WERW maintains a tradition of college radio by playing a diverse range of genres and is now listenable world-wide on the web. The three stations provide the strongest college radio punch in the nation.
Citrus TV is a student-run group that produces television programming. Students gain experience producing news, sports, game shows, dramas and every other type of video entertainment regularly seen on television. Citrus TV shows are seen on the Orange Television Network (channel 2) and the Citrus TV website.
Orange Television Network (OTN) is the campus cable television station seen in all University housing on channels 2 and 99. Students who work at OTN gain experience producing sports, music, comedy and other educational and creative performance programming for television and the web. OTN is one of the few college cable television stations in the country that airs nearly all-original content 24/7 throughout the academic year.
