Pam Shoemaker, John Ben Snow Professor, presented the paper "Evolution and the News" at the University of Siegen, Germany, conference Media and Universals, February 2005. She also presented two invited papers in China in March: "How to Build Social Science Theories" at Shanghai University and Fudan University, and "Gatekeeping" at Shanghai University.

Pat Longstaff, associate professor - television, radio, and film, presented her research on the role of the communications media in the resilience of local populations affected by surprises such as natural disasters and terrorist attacks while in London last semester. She spoke at the World Association of Christian Communicators meeting; at the Newnham College Women's Speaker Series, Cambridge University; and as a participant at a conference on dealing with disasters at Benfield Hazard Resarch Center, University College of London.

George Comstock, Newhouse professor, published The Psychology of Media and Politics, San Diego: Academic Press, with former student Erica Scharrer who earned her doctorate here and is now an Associate Professor at U Mass Amherst: His most recent articles include "Media and Popular Culture" in K.
