At the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, students are strongly encouraged to pursue internships. We view internships as an integral part of a student's education. They provide our students with opportunities to apply their educational training in a real world setting. Students at Newhouse may apply for a variety of internships during their collegiate stay.
Many Central New York communications companies supply students with genuine work world experiences. Whether a student is interested in broadcast, print, radio or online journalism, public relations, advertising, graphics, photography or television and film, there is a place in CNY where she/he can intern. In addition, many undergraduate students intern outside the CNY area during their summer and winter breaks; graduate students often intern outside Syracuse during their graduate year. Many Newhouse students work at internships in New York City, Rochester, Buffalo, Utica and Albany.
While interning, Newhouse students are engaged in a variety of activities. The Career Counseling Office and Career Center ensure that students do more than retrieve coffee while they intern; our students act out essential roles at a variety of communications organizations.
