In the summer before you arrive at Newhouse you will be assigned a peer advisor, an upper division student who has volunteered to contact you to answer questions about course schedules, living arrangements, social life, and whatever else might concern you. You will meet your peer advisor on the first day you arrive on campus (usually the Thursday before the opening Monday of classes). Your peer advisor will be available to you throughout the first semester.
You will also be assigned a faculty advisor, whom you will meet for the first time on the day before classes begin in the Fall. Because many Newhouse students are undecided as to major, and many more change their minds, we assign faculty advisors without regard to a proposed field of study.
You and a dozen other Newhouse freshmen will meet your faculty advisor four or five times in the first few weeks of the first semester, for both social events and orientation sessions.
Once you have declared a major, you will be assigned an advisor in that field. However, you may choose to stay with your freshman advisor or select from among your favorite professors.
