Professor Perry began reporting for WSAZ-TV in Huntington-Charleston, West Virginia (her home state) when Jimmy Carter was President of the United States and women held minority status in TV newsrooms. She has 17 years of experience as a TV news reporter, anchor and producer. She has worked for television stations in West Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio and New York.

Her specialty is health coverage, and she served as health reporter for both WCMH-TV and WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio, and at WUAB/WOIO-TV in Cleveland, Ohio. She also reported and anchored for the nationally-syndicated TV health program, Life Choices with Erie Chapman.

In Syracuse, she hosted WCNY-TV’s Religion Matters. She has written for publications and websites including http://newhouse.syr.edu, SU London Centre's Speaker's Corner, Newhouse Network, RTNDA Communicator, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Cleveland.com, New Cleveland Woman, and Columbus Kids.

In 1998, Prof. Perry began teaching grammar and writing to Newhouse students. She also worked as a career advisor in the Newhouse School’s Career Development Center. She currently teaches TV news reporting, broadcast news writing and health reporting. She is also web producer for the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications website.

Professor Perry is married to Newhouse broadcast journalism Professor Chris Tuohey, and they live in Syracuse with son Patrick and daughter Dana.
