Born in Memphis, Tenn., Niedt was raised in Ewing, N.J. After graduating from Hope College in Holland, Mich., Niedt worked at the Holland Sentinel newspaper in Holland for three years. Niedt left as assistant city editor to pursue a master's degree at Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Communications and at the same time, was hired as a regional copy editor at The Syracuse Newspapers. There, Niedt has written multiple columns (regional, television, features and currently, business) and served as entertainment editor, pop music critic, national television writer and his current position, business writer. Niedt has won various state AP awards in Michigan and New York and has served on the board of directors of the Television Critics Association. Niedt is also the ski writer for The Post-Standard and is Northeast regional editor for OnTheSnow.com.
