Evan Smith is the Chair of the Screenwriting Program at Syracuse University's Newhouse School and author of the best selling book Writing Television Sitcoms. He joined the faculty after working in the industry for 16 years. As a screenwriter, he wrote comedy and drama for Paramount, MTM, Fox, USA, and various producers. Before that, he worked as a television development VP in charge of TV-movies, specials, and series. He is acclaimed for his industry seminars (AFI, Screenwriting EXPO, Learning Annex) and articles on screenwriting technique. He also serves as a private script consultant for entertainment companies and screenwriters.

Evan holds a B.A. from Brown University and an M.S. from the Newhouse School. He teaches courses in screenwriting, comedy writing, film business, and production.
