Professor Flocke teaches communications law, reporting, newswriting and research methods classes to undergraduate and graduate students. A former newspaper reporter, editor and sports information director, she holds a doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia and bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.She is a co-author of two books: Media and Disasters: Pan Am 103, (New York University Press 1994) and Journalism and the Aging Population, (Copley Press; 1990) and has published several scholarly and professional articles. Her research interests are in media law, history, and news. The former Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of the Newhouse School has also served on the national board of directors of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ).
