Newhouse School recommended for reaccreditation

October 14, 2009

The Newhouse School has received a recommendation for reaccreditation from the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC), following a site visit from a reaccreditation team.

To earn accreditation or re-accreditation from ACEJMC, the school must perform well in nine areas, or standards: Mission, governance and administration; curriculum and instruction; diversity and inclusiveness; full- and part-time faculty; scholarship (research, creative and professional activity); student services; resources, facility and equipment; professional and public service; and assessment of learning outcomes.

There are 114 accredited programs in journalism and mass communication in the United States. All must undergo a review every six years in order to maintain accreditation.

The Newhouse School was first accredited in 1948.
