Whether you plan on stepping into a communications industry career after you graduate or prefer to study the theories of mass media and pursue a more academic path, Newhouse is the perfect place for you to reach your goals.
Three types of master's degrees to choose from
The Newhouse School offers 13 professional degree programs, including:
All of our graduate programs begin in summer. Students complete most programs in one calendar year or 12-14 months. Photography students spend about 18 months on courses and a special project, while the public diplomacy degree takes two years to complete.
Our graduate students typically start classes the first week of July. The year begins with a six-week session and continues during our fall (late August to mid-December) and spring (mid-January to early May) semesters. Most programs finish the following summer with a capstone project or internship.
Our academic master's degree in media studies is ideal for students with mass media experience who want to critically examine the mass communications process. It's also an excellent foundation for the doctoral degree. The media studies program begins in fall and is typically two years long.
Executive education is a new frontier for the Newhouse School. Our current executive education program offers a communications management master's degree from our public relations department. With Newhouse's growing facilities and a centralized executive education administrative office, we plan on expanding to other departments in the near future.
Master's program application deadlines
The deadline for admission to any of our graduate programs is January 15 of the year in which you plan to enroll. Applications received after January 15 are reviewed on a space-available basis.
